Letter R

We finished up R today (we paused and did Thanksgiving and Christmas folders/activities in the middle of R) We did a rocket craft then used the Rocket song off of PBS kids to "Zoom" the rocket all over the place. In case you can't read it, the song goes:

We're rockets, zooming around, zooming through outer space. We're rockets, roaming around, roaming all over the place.

Under the rocket is our rice R's. We did this one following the rainbow R's (seen below) and Savannah liked the idea so much that she wanted to make these rainbow colored too. So we dyed the rice with food coloring and talked about mixing colors in order to get what we needed from the primary colors..... Lots of Fun!

Savannah proud of her colored rice. Here are the Rainbow R's that we made out of construction paper. Savannah took strips of paper and glued it on to a white sheet of paper and I cut out the shape after the colors were on. Much easier. (Found it on another blog so don't give me credit...It's from No Time for Flashcards.) Above is also our Rabbit R, which I also found on the other blog.... cut but harder for Savannah as it required more fine motor for the tiny pieces.....

These are in that bag at the top of the folder. I laminated the raindrops using clear packing tape, in three different sizes, and we tried a patterning activity. Savannah didn't get it at first, but started doing better towards the end. We read Drip Drop and Raindrop Plop! to go along with the raindrops activity too. Savannah loved it.

Every letter I have large letters for Savannah just to color by herself. This time we cut them out and used rainbow colors in the leftover cutouts to make these r's. Though not notebook worthy, they did turn out pretty cool. I especially like the lowercase r.

Savannah has asked to move on to letter L, so here we come lollipops and licorice! Hmmm, what else starts with L?

"i" week

So the pictures are sideways, but they are finally here....

We did color matching/ordering to make ice cream cones.... and size ordering.....We created an inch measuring stick.... and painted, cut out, and measured inchworms. If you notice, we also found an inchworm poem and read through it several times and acted it out somewhat..... It seems like we didn't do much for the I week, but we did a lot of steps to all the projects we did... so the activities we did took longer than other weeks.... We also made an instrument, and maybe if I get organized I can get a picture..... or not....

This week there were no printables, all self drawn and self created.

Week 3 -T

Week 1 - M

It's a little late to post, but this is the projects from the first week of school. We did cut out M's on the front of the file folder.

The inside is the fun part. We used the letter M to make different activities relating to the letter. Mountain M, has a Moon, midnight, and me - Music is up in the top right corner, and some random m words.

Week 2 - Aa

Now we actually started with Mm, but I haven't put the folder together with Savannah yet. We have done the Aa folder though, so here it is.

We covered the front of the folder with cut out A's. Then I wrote what the different A's stood for.... America, Apple, Ant, and Alligator. We also added some braille....

I had her draw a map and then we pasted the weather map america over the top. Not really how I had pictured it but it was late at night and I wanted to just get it done. We also took an A and made it into an Alligator, and did Apple stamping.

On the other side, we made an Apple book (more in the next picture) an ant, ant hill (ants are finger prints) and Savannah's apple picture. She drew that all by herself.

For her apple book, we counted how many of each colored apple was at the grocery store. Then we bought one of each and cut it open, counted the seeds, the stems, and tasted them. Savannah's favorite was the Granny Smith.

Our Learning Plan

Our Bug really wants to learn. She is taking in so much information lately and it just seems to stick. So we have been doing some homeschool activities and I am real excited about it. Bug absolutely loves doing them too, but I am still trying to decide how much she gets out of them, and how to give the activities some more depth. In the meantime though, we are headed through the alphabet, a letter at a time. I can't say it is going to be a letter a week, it is more of a when the mood strikes Bug we pull out letter activities....

We are not going through the alphabet in alphabetical order, but in a suggested phonics order or current interests. Then we are posting all the activities into file folders and at the end of the year, or however long it takes us, merging them all into a book format. I'll post at least the finished letter booklets after they are finished, and if lucky, Bug will even be in a few of the photos!

Once we are done through the alphabet this year, we are probably going to start a phonics program of some sort, as she is already reading some words and I just want to continue building on that.
